Can Tho to Vinh Long

Private Car Transfer

Can Tho to Vinh Long by private car — 42.9 km, about 1 hour 5 minutes on QL1A heading north. The shortest drive in the delta, but it crosses one of the most meaningful internal borders in the region: from the Hau River side of the Mekong to the Tien River side. Vinh Long sits between two major Mekong distributaries and the whole province feels like it's floating — a city on the bank of one river, with a 60 km² island immediately across the water, accessible by a 15-minute ferry ride from the town center.

Mui Ne Private Car picks you up at your door in Can Tho and drops you at your exact address in Vinh Long — hotel, guesthouse, the ferry landing for Cu Lao An Binh, or anywhere in the city. Just over an hour of road, then the delta's most intact island experience is waiting on the other side of the river.

Mui Ne Private Car is a brand of Minh Khoi Tourism Co., Ltd. — trusted by international travelers and listed on GetYourGuide, 12Go, and Tripadvisor.

CAN THO TO VINH LONG — WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

1/ What is Vinh Long and why go there?

Vinh Long is the province that sits between the two main Mekong channels — sông Tiền to the north and sông Hậu to the south. The city itself is on the south bank of the Tien River, looking across at Cù Lao An Bình — a 60 km² island formed by the braiding of the Tien and Co Chien rivers, entirely covered in fruit orchards, canal-laced lanes, and family homestays. The ferry from the town riverfront to the island takes about 15 minutes and costs almost nothing.

Vinh Long is the Mekong Delta at its most genuine for overnight visitors. My Tho gets day-trippers from Ho Chi Minh City. Can Tho gets the floating market tourists. Vinh Long sits between them without the crowds, and Cù Lao An Bình — the island — runs on its own quiet rhythm: fruit harvests, canal boats, roosters at 5am, and families who've been doing homestay tourism long enough to be relaxed about it rather than performative.

2/ How far is Can Tho from Vinh Long?

Approximately 42.9 km via QL1A heading north — the shortest inter-city drive in the delta. Travel time is around 1 hour 5 minutes under normal conditions. QL1A between Can Tho and Vinh Long is flat national highway: two lanes, steady traffic, no bridges to wait for, no river crossings. Your pickup point in Can Tho may adjust the total slightly, but this is comfortably a one-hour run.

Route: Can Tho → QL1A North → Vinh Long city (south bank of the Tien River)

4/ Can I take a bus from Can Tho to Vinh Long?

Yes — there are buses on this route. At 42.9 km and just over an hour, it's short enough that a bus is a realistic option for solo travelers with minimal luggage. The practical difference is the drop-off point: buses go to the Vinh Long bus terminal, which is a few kilometres from the riverfront and the An Binh ferry landing. For anyone going directly to a riverside guesthouse or the island, a private car delivers you there without the extra leg. For families or anyone with more than a daypack, it's the more comfortable call.

5/ How to book and pay?

Send your pickup address in Can Tho, departure time, number of passengers, and luggage count via WhatsApp, Zalo or Viber: (+84) 976 694 384 or email muineprivatecarservice@gmail.com. We confirm the same day.

Book at muineprivatecar.net. Payment in cash at drop-off, or in advance by Visa, Mastercard, or Bank Transfer. Available 24/7.

PRIVATE CAR FROM CAN THO TO VINH LONG

Your driver arrives, bags go in, and you head north on QL1A. Can Tho's city edges clear in about 15 minutes and the road opens into flat delta country — rice, canals, the occasional cassava field, roadside fruit vendors with stacks of pomelo and rambutan depending on the season. There's not much to say about 42.9 km of national highway except that it passes quickly and you arrive before you've had time to feel the journey.

Can Tho to Vinh Long via QL1A — 42.9 km, ~1 hr 5 min

QL1A north from Can Tho runs through Binh Minh district in Vinh Long province before arriving at the city. The road is two lanes with normal national highway traffic — trucks, buses, local motorbikes, the occasional farm vehicle. Nothing unexpected. The Can Tho–Vinh Long section is one of the better-maintained stretches of QL1A in the delta, largely because it connects two significant provincial cities.

As you enter Vinh Long city, the Tien River appears ahead. The city sits right on the south bank and the river here is wide — 300–400 metres across at least, with Cù Lao An Bình visible as a continuous green tree line on the far side. Your driver takes you to your accommodation address. If you're going to a riverside hotel, you'll check in with the river outside your window and the island directly across.

Drop-off at the An Binh Ferry Landing

If you're going directly to Cu Lao An Binh island without stopping at a city hotel first, we can drop you at the bến phà An Bình — the ferry dock on the Vinh Long riverfront near Cong Vien Song Tien park. The ferry runs regularly and takes about 15 minutes. Your driver will have you at the dock with your bags in hand; the island is waiting on the other side.

Vinh Long — What to Expect When You Arrive

Vinh Long province occupies the strip of land between sông Tiền and sông Hậu — sandwiched between the two biggest Mekong distributaries, laced with smaller channels, and built around the river economy of the delta. The city is modest in scale, with a riverfront that faces directly onto Cù Lao An Bình. That island is the reason most visitors come.

When to go:

  • November to April (dry season): Best overall. QL1A is reliable, the island lanes are dry enough for cycling, and the fruit orchards are accessible without mud. Most of the major fruit varieties peak between March and June — chôm chôm, nhãn, xoài, bưởi năm roi. If you're coming specifically for the orchard experience, this is the window.
  • May to October (wet season): The island floods partially in peak months. Canal water levels rise and some orchard paths are submerged. The boat experience is more immersive — you're literally floating through the canopy. Homestays are quieter and cheaper. The mangosteen and rambutan seasons often run into the wet months.
  • Departure from Can Tho: Anytime works for a one-hour drive. If you want to be on the island by morning — before the day-trip boats arrive from My Tho — leave Can Tho at 7:00am, ferry across by 9:00am, and you'll have the canal paths mostly to yourself.

What to do in Vinh Long:

  • Cù Lao An Bình (An Binh Island): The main reason to come. Take the ferry from Vinh Long city riverfront (~15 minutes, a few thousand đồng), then either rent a bicycle or join a small canal boat tour. The island has fruit orchards you can walk into and eat from, canal paths shaded by bamboo and willow, family homestays, and a pace of life that hasn't been adjusted for tourism. The island is 60 km² and four communes — you can spend a full day without seeing the same stretch of water twice.
  • Nhà cổ Cai Cường (Cai Cuong Ancient House): A 19th-century merchant's house on the island, still occupied by descendants of the original family. The interior — dark timber, Chinese porcelain, old photographs — is the kind of thing that gets described as "stepping back in time" but in this case earns it. An hour, including the conversation with the family if they're around.
  • Coco Home: Built from over 4,000 coconut palms — columns, walls, roof beams, furniture, lampshades — by a family that spent two years on construction. It's on the island, near the Vinh Sang eco-resort. Genuinely unusual architecture; the scale of the coconut use only becomes apparent when you're inside.
  • Làng gạch Mang Thít (Mang Thit Brick Kilns — "The Red Kingdom"): About 20 km southwest of Vinh Long city, along the Mang Thit River. Over a hundred traditional cylindrical brick kilns, more than 100 years old, many still in use or recently decommissioned. The scale is industrial but the setting is entirely rural — kilns emerging from banana trees along a canal. Best experienced by boat from a local operator in Vinh Long city.
  • Chùa Tiên Châu (Tien Chau Temple): Founded around 1750, on the island's western bank near the An Binh ferry landing. The oldest temple in Vinh Long, national heritage listed, with a legend attached to the "Tien" (fairy) beach beside it. 30 minutes.
  • Chợ nổi Trà Ôn: One of the oldest floating markets in the delta, about 50 km south of Vinh Long city. Operates from around 4:00–8:00am. Smaller and less organized than Cai Rang but also less staged — boats still carry wholesale produce rather than tourist snacks. Worth the early alarm if floating markets are your thing.

Why Book With Us?

  • We drop you where you actually need to be. Vinh Long is small but the ferry landing, the city center hotels, and the outer districts are in different directions. Your driver takes you to your exact address — not to the bus terminal on the edge of town.

  • Ferry landing drop-off available. If you're going straight to Cu Lao An Binh, tell us when you book. We'll drop you at the bến phà An Bình with your bags, and the island is 15 minutes by ferry from there.

  • Short drive, right vehicle. At just over an hour, this is a comfortable journey in any vehicle from our fleet. Sedan for couples, SUV for families, Minivan for groups with luggage.

  • Driver details the night before. Name, phone number, license plate via WhatsApp before 21:00 Vietnam time. No surprises on departure day.

  • Fixed price, nothing extra. Fuel and driver included. QL1A between Can Tho and Vinh Long has no toll booths on this section.

  • Onward transfers available. Vinh Long to My Tho, Ho Chi Minh City, or back to Can Tho — book both legs together and save the scramble.

42.9 km — the shortest route in the delta. The drive itself is nothing special. But it ends at a riverfront where a 15-minute ferry will take you to one of the most intact island landscapes in the Mekong Delta, and that combination is why this short transfer is worth booking properly rather than improvising.

★ THE MOST POPULAR ROUTE: QL1A Direct

The route everyone takes is Can Tho → QL1A North → Vinh Long — 42.9 km, about 1 hour 5 minutes, straight run. There is no meaningfully faster or more practical alternative for this distance:

  • It's the only direct road between the two cities. QL1A runs north from Can Tho and arrives in Vinh Long without any detour or connection. The distance is just under 43 km — short enough that any alternative routing would add time, not save it.
  • No river crossings, no ferry waits. Unlike many delta routes, Can Tho to Vinh Long on QL1A is entirely overland — bridges replaced the old ferry crossings on this corridor years ago.
  • Short enough to leave the full day ahead. Leave Can Tho at 7:00am, arrive in Vinh Long before 8:30am. Ferry across to the island by 9:00am. The orchards and canal paths are yours before the day-trip crowds from My Tho arrive.
