The dry season in Nha Trang lasts from January until August, with calm seas and reliable sunshine that are ideal for exploring the waters by snorkeling or visiting the islands via ferry. During the wet season between September and December, afternoon showers and strong waves force cancellations in boat trips to the islands and make lounging at the beach unpredictable. Compared to Vung Tau or Ho Tram, Nha Trang’s high season period falls within June to August when domestic tourists flock to coastal destinations, although mid-week stays will help one sidestep crowded weekends.

What to See in Nha Trang

• Nha Trang Beach and Tran Phu Boulevard - A seven kilometer stretch of beaches lining the shoreline, with hotels and restaurants lining up along the Tran Phu street. The beach is most lively at the northern side, around the Sailing Club, while the southern part is more tranquil, close to the ferry port. Morning sees the beach being enjoyed by locals who come to swim and jog. But by lunchtime, it's full of Vietnamese holidaymakers. The best time for walking and photography is an hour after sunrise.
• Hon Mun Marine Protected Area - A dive and snorkeling destination close to shore, just about ten kilometers out from the city in the bay. It boasts some of the healthiest coral reefs on the South Central Coast of Vietnam. Visibility is best during the dry season, between March and May.
• Po Nagar Cham Towers - An ancient Cham temple site dating back over a thousand years, located on the hill overlooking the confluence of the river with the sea near the north end of town. The four existing towers continue to function as living temples today. The scenery from the hill, which features the mouth of the river and boats on the water, is one of the unique aspects of Nha Trang that no visitor fails to see, despite not knowing what to expect beforehand. Best to visit early in the day before the tour groups descend upon it.
• Dam Market and the streets behind it - Located in the center of the city, the largest market where various foods including seafood, fish sauce, highland coffee, and fabrics are sold. In actuality, what makes it special are the roads around it, especially during the evening when various food stalls come up along the river and the alleys around Cho Dam for dishes like jellyfish noodles, banh canh cha ca, and grilled seafood at prices way cheaper than anywhere else in Tran Phu.
