• Mui Ne White and Red Dunes (~3h from Nha Trang): The dunes that most people associate with this coastline. The white dunes are best early morning; the red dunes near town are accessible at any time. The fairy stream walk alongside them is 20 minutes and free. If your hotel is in Mui Ne, this is arrival territory rather than a stop.

• November to June is the dry season for Binh Thuan province. This is when Mui Ne earns its reputation — strong wind, clear water, consistent sunshine. If Nha Trang has been rainy, there is a reasonable chance Phan Thiet is dry — and the expressway crosses that weather boundary visibly in the Ninh Thuan section.

What to do once you are in Phan Thiet and Mui Ne

• Mui Ne Sand Dunes (Red and White): The red dunes are 10 minutes from the main resort strip and accessible at any time. The white dunes are 30 km further and are best before 8 AM — after that the quad bikes arrive and the atmosphere changes. Both are worth seeing; plan accordingly.
• Fairy Stream (Suoi Tien): A shallow stream running through ochre and white clay cliffs to the sea. Take your shoes off at the entrance and walk upstream for 20 minutes. No entrance fee.
