When you arrive at Pu Luong Valley, the climate will be cooler, with terraced green slopes all around the Thai villages’ stilt houses visible among the rice paddies.

By car from Ninh Binh to Pu Luong Nature Reserve (2 hours 50 minutes – 3 hours)
While driving, your driver takes you through a part of Thanh Hoa that has quite appealing scenery. It is not a crowded area as in case of tourist destinations in Ninh Binh. Best Time to Visit
If you want to make sure that you have great weather while traveling to Pu Luong, then visiting from October to April is ideal. During these months, you will see clear skies, the mountain roads leading to the destination via QL217 will be very dependable, and the air will be fresh and cool in the valley area. In September to early October, the rice will be harvested, creating a golden landscape in the field, and the valley will look very beautiful in the morning under the mist covering the ridgelines. Those who will be lucky enough to visit during this time will truly enjoy the trip.
From March to May, there will be green paddies and cool weather due to the planting season for the rice crops in the area. July to August, which are the peak rainy periods, should be avoided because it can be dangerous to travel through this road on the upper section of the valley.

Pu Luong Valley Rice Terraces - Signature feature of the reserve. Large rice paddies formed in terraces that are planted and cultivated by Thai and Muong communities in the valley of the Cham River amidst limestone mountain slopes covered by tropical forest. Their beauty peaks at planting time (April to May) and harvesting period (September to October).

Hieu Waterfall - Most easily reachable waterfall within the reserve. It can be reached from the main road by foot. The swimming pool located at the bottom of the waterfall is quite well-known place to cool off in after a morning walk.

Thai and Muong Stilt-House Villages - Villages such as Ban Hieu, Ban Don and Ban Cham are all right in the middle of the valley floor in the paddy fields. Authentic stilt house constructions, local textiles hanging out to dry under the sun, water buffaloes wandering through paths between rice fields - an authentic, laid-back way of life which tourists love for its soothing effect.
