Stage 1 - Mu Cang Chai over Khau Pha Pass to Tu Le km 0 – 31

Past Tu Le, the valley widens and the terraced fields gradually give way to flatter rice paddies as the road crosses from Yen Bai Province into Lai Chau Province.

O Quy Ho, also known as Heaven’s Gate, is the higher of the two passes on this route, with an elevation exceeding 2,000 meters. It features the narrowest zigzag curves along the entire journey and a scenic overlook at the pass’s summit that’s worth stopping at for a moment.
Stage 4 - Through Sapa Down to Lao Cai km 115 – 168
The downhill stretch from O Quy Ho leads the car into the town of Sapa, where the terraced rice fields are smaller in scale and more intensively cultivated than those in the vast valleys left behind near Mu Cang Chai.
