⚠️ Backup Plan: The Gia Luan - Tuan Chau Ferry Option (Based on my professional experience, when spray tanning sessions are overcrowded and the solution is heavily alkaline, this is the alternative choice).

If the main ferry terminal (Cai Vieng) gets heavily congested, your driver may proactively switch the route to the Gia Luan - Tuan Chau Ferry (Ha Long Bay). 

The Pro: It helps you completely bypass the massive traffic gridlocks and hours of waiting at the Cai Vieng pier on Sunday afternoons or public holidays.

The Con: Your overall travel time to Mai Chau will be significantly longer. You will need to drive 45 minutes north to Gia Luan pier, take a longer ferry ride (45–50 minutes), and then take the Ha Long - Hai Phong Expressway before joining the main highway to Hanoi and Hoa Binh.
